There is also a noticeable trend toward increased cultural interest over the year-end and New Year holidays, as seen in “This Year’s Kanji. Although there are no direct trend words in the field of sweets, these changes in the mood of society as a whole and the changing seasons indirectly affect the themes of homemade sweets. For example, star-shaped cookies for romantic events such as meteor showers, rich chocolate confections to warm the heart during the cold season, or baked goods that can be easily prepared and stored for use in times of disaster. Recipe name: Matcha Daifuku on a Starry Night – Whisper of Full Moon and Meteor

concept

The stars shining in the night sky and the soft and gentle aroma of green tea melt together in this comforting daifuku. It is a visually beautiful Japanese sweet that is like a romantic night sky locked in.

Ingredients (for 8 pieces)

Material name amount
0 Gyuhi Dough
refined rice flour 100g
sugar 50g
water (esp. cool, fresh water, e.g. drinking water) 150ml
0matcha bean paste
sweet white bean paste 200g
powdered green tea 1 tablespoon (adjust to taste)
decorating shrines and gates with shimenawa ropes for the New Year
Edible gold leaf (flake type) small quantity
Silver Foil Sugar small quantity
Cornstarch (for flour) proper quantity

way of making

  1. [Making matcha bean paste]Mix the matcha powder into the white bean paste and knead well. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and roll into a ball. This is the “heart” of Daifuku.
  2. Making Gyuhi DoughPut the white bean flour and water in a heatproof bowl and mix well with a whisk until there are no lumps. When smooth, add sugar and mix further. This is where the first adventure begins!
  3. Cover the bowl fluffily with plastic wrap and microwave (600W) for 1 minute. Once removed, mix well with a wet spatula, cover with plastic wrap again, and heat for 1 minute. Repeat this process two or three times until the dough becomes transparent and chewy. It is hot, so be careful not to burn yourself! This is the moment when the “skin” of the daifuku is gradually born.
  4. Remove the chewy gyuuhi dough from the pan and place it on a thinly lined cornstarch-lined baking sheet. Spread the dough lightly with the palm of your hand, and place the matcha bean paste in the center of the dough. Carefully wrap the bean paste in the gyuuhi and close the eyes tightly, just like a gentle mother wrapping her baby.
  5. FinishingWith the closed eyes down, scatter edible gold leaf over the surface of the daifuku. Then, sprinkle some silver foil sugar on the surface of the Daifuku, to resemble a full moon and meteors shining in the night sky. Carefully create your own starry sky one by one!
  6. Cooling the Daifuku in the refrigerator a little will help the Gyuhi to settle down and make it even more delicious. The moment the cold Daifuku melts in your mouth is truly bliss!

point

The secret to the delicious taste here is to spare no effort in the mixing process when heating the gefu dough in the microwave! By mixing evenly, a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture is created. The matcha bean paste must be mixed thoroughly with matcha powder to bring out its fragrant flavor. The gold and silver leaf sugar is like twinkling stars in the night sky. They are beautiful to look at and create an emotional climax.
