A discussion of recent search trends
Looking at today’s Google search trends, at first glance, news and proper nouns unrelated to sweets seem to dominate the top of the list. However, it is interesting to note that keywords rooted in daily life such as “Marugame Seimen” and “Shimamura” are scattered among them. In particular, “Shimamura bonbon drop stickers” indicates a high level of interest in items that are easy to enjoy, a little comforting, or tickle the collector’s fancy. This can be considered to be linked to consumption behavior of “petit luxury” and “reward” items that are familiar, easy to pick up, and add color to daily life, rather than expensive items. In the field of food as well, there is not only a desire for luxury, but also a reevaluation of the small pleasures found in everyday life and simple tastes that bring a sense of nostalgia. As a homemade recipe site, how to express this “familiar happiness” and “special feeling of easy enjoyment” will likely be the key to future content creation.

Retro coffee shop style ♪ Fluffy milk raisin rolls with nostalgic drop
The nostalgic mille crepe that you used to eat at the coffee shop when you were a child is now made into a roll cake with an easier and more playful flavor. The fluffy crepe dough, smooth cream, and colorful drops create a new and nostalgic taste.
material
| [Crepe dough] | |
| weak flour | 100g |
| sugar | 20g |
| egg | two (objects) |
| (cow’s) milk | 250ml |
| Melted butter (unsalted) | 15g |
| vanilla essence | small quantity |
| Salad oil (for grilling) | proper quantity |
| Whipped cream. | |
| Fresh cream (at least 40% animal) | 200ml |
| sugar | 20g |
| Kirschwasser (optional) | 1/2 teaspoon |
| Decoration | |
| Commercial drop candy | About 10 grains |
| powdered sugar | proper quantity |
way of making
- Make the crepe batter】Put the flour and sugar in a bowl and mix well with a whisk. Prevent lumps, this is the secret to the delicious taste!
- In a separate bowl, crack the eggs and add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
- Add the liquid from Step 2 to the bowl of flour from Step 1, a little at a time, and mix with a whisk until smooth. Once mixed, strain the mixture once through a strainer for an even smoother batter.
- Cover the dough with plastic wrap and let it rest in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes. This step is what makes the crepe dough moist and glutinous!
- Heat a frying pan over medium heat and spread a thin layer of salad oil. (Wipe with kitchen paper for even coating.)
- Pour in 1 ball spoonful (about 30 ml) of dough and spread thinly, tilting the pan. When the edges of the dough begin to rise, flip and cook quickly. A total of about 1 minute on both sides is recommended. Be careful not to overcook the dough, as it will become tough! Bake about 10 slices.
- The baked crepe dough should be covered with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out and allowed to cool.
- In a chilled bowl, add the cream, sugar, and kirschwasser to taste, and while chilling the bottom of the bowl with ice water, beat with a hand mixer to 8 parts whipping cream. The whipped cream should be stiffly whipped.
- Assembling] Now comes the climax of the excitement! Spread out the plastic wrap on the worktable and gradually lay the crepe dough on top of it. To make it easier to roll, arrange about 10 sheets in a row vertically, shifting the edges of the dough little by little. At this point, be aware that the entire dough should be rectangular.
- Spread the whipped cream evenly over the lined crepe dough. The key is to spread the whipped cream thoroughly all the way to the edges of the dough.
- Starting from the front, carefully and slowly roll the dough into a roll, not too tightly but not too loose. Wrap tightly in plastic wrap, twist the ends, and refrigerate for at least one hour to harden.
- Decorate】Take the chilled and hardened milk-rape roll out of the refrigerator and cut it to the desired thickness. It is recommended to cut with a warm knife so that the cut edges are beautiful.
- Sprinkle with finely crushed drop candies (or just plain drops) and sprinkle with powdered sugar, and you have a retro cafe-style milk-rape roll! The multicolored drops sparkle and shine like a jewelry box.
- Please take your time and enjoy the nostalgic taste with your favorite tea or coffee.
This is the point where it becomes delicious!
The most important point of this recipe is the “fluffy” texture of the crepe dough! The ideal texture is achieved by carefully sifting the flour, mixing it with the egg mixture, and then allowing it to rest in the refrigerator. Also, sprinkling crushed drop candies on top of the dough makes it look gorgeous and adds a fun crunchy accent. We hope you enjoy this nostalgic yet new surprise.
