A discussion of recent search trends
A look at today’s Google search trends shows that “breaking election news” and “vote count” are at the top of the list, indicating that a great deal of public interest is focused on the political situation. This may be an indication that society as a whole is undergoing a major transition. On the other hand, entertainment-related words such as “Today’s Favorite Daegu Arc Spoilers” and “Murase Kokomo” also attracted attention, indicating that in this age of information overload, there is a growing need for content that takes a break from reality and satisfies the mind. Furthermore, brand names such as “Workman” and “Eddie Bauer” are ranked in the list, indicating interest in products that emphasize practicality and functionality. What these trends reveal is the sentiment that people are seeking “peace of mind,” “healing,” and “solid value” in the midst of a fast-paced, ever-changing world.
From a food culture perspective, when there is a major social movement, there is a tendency for people to demand sweets that are easy to eat, yet calming and uplifting. Demand will increase for sweets that can be easily picked up while watching the election vote count, or sweets with a special feeling that can be a reward for one’s hard work. Finger sweets that can be eaten with one hand while enjoying entertainment content and sweets that are pleasing to the eye and look great on social networking sites are also likely to be popular. Interest in functional brands may also lead to increased attention to simple but wholesome homemade snacks that are made with the best ingredients. Today’s recipe proposes a homemade sweet that combines such “peace of mind,” “healing,” and “specialness,” and is perfect for today’s mood.

Colorful Japanese parfait – Harmony of green tea and fruits
This is a peaceful Japanese-style parfait that will free you from the hectic pace of everyday life. The bitterness of matcha green tea, sweet and sour seasonal fruits, and the gentle sweetness of anko (red bean paste) and shiratama (white bean curd) make this parfait a delight for both the eyes and the palate, and it looks great on social networking sites.
material
| Material name | amount |
|---|---|
| Matcha milk pudding. | |
| (cow’s) milk | 200ml |
| sugar | 30g |
| powdered gelatin | 3g |
| Water (for gelatin) | 1 tablespoon |
| powdered green tea | 2 teaspoons |
| Mochimochi dumplings | |
| refined rice flour | 50g |
| water (esp. cool, fresh water, e.g. drinking water) | 45 ml |
| [Toppings] | |
| Commercial vanilla ice cream | proper quantity |
| sweetened red-bean paste | proper quantity |
| strawberry (esp. the garden strawberry, Fragaria x ananassa) | 4-5 grains |
| kiwi | 1/2 piece |
| canned mandarin oranges | proper quantity |
| Matcha powder (for finishing) | small quantity |
| Mint leaves | small quantity |
way of making
- Now, let the adventure begin! First, let’s make the matcha milk pudding that will serve as the base of the parfait. Put water and powdered gelatin in a heatproof container and let it stand for 5 minutes to soften.
- Put the milk and sugar in a saucepan and dissolve the sugar over low heat. Turn off the heat when the edges of the pan begin to bubble, but do not allow it to boil.
- Add the softened gelatin and mix well to dissolve. Once the gelatin is completely dissolved, sift in the matcha powder using a tea strainer and mix well to avoid lumps. The bright green color and aroma of the matcha tea will be a blissful moment.
- Remove from heat, pour a small amount into the bottom of a parfait glass and refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm. The remaining pudding liquid can be placed in a separate container to chill and harden.
- Next, let’s make shiratama dumplings with a sticky texture. Put shiratama flour and water in a bowl and knead well until the mixture becomes as soft as an earlobe. This “kneading” is the secret to delicious shiratama! Enjoy the sensation of touching them with your fingertips.
- Roll the dough into a small ball and dent the center lightly. Place in boiling water and boil for another 1 to 2 minutes after it rises to the surface, then remove from cold water and drain. The smooth appearance is very appetizing.
- Cut the fruit. Remove the stems from the strawberries and cut them in half lengthwise. Peel the kiwi and cut into round slices. Prepare to serve beautifully with color in mind.
- Finally, the climax of the excitement! The cooled and hardened green tea milk pudding is topped with a dollop of commercial vanilla ice cream. The cool ice cream feels irresistible.
- Arrange strawberries, kiwi, canned mandarin oranges, and other fruits around it in a colorful manner, and balance the shiratama dumplings and tsubuan (sweet bean paste) on top.
- Finally, sift matcha powder over the top with a tea strainer and garnish with mint leaves! A gorgeous and beautiful parfait, like a jewelry box, appears before your eyes.
- Don’t forget to take a picture! And once you take a bite, the blissful harmony that spreads in your mouth will surely blow away your fatigue.
point
The key to matcha milk pudding is to add it to warm milk so that the gelatin dissolves thoroughly. The matcha tends to form lumps, so sift the matcha into the milk and mix well. Knead the shiratama dumplings until they are about the size of your earlobes, which will give them a much more sticky texture. Use seasonal fruits and arrange them in a colorful way to make them look even more attractive on a social networking site. The contrast between the cold ice cream and warm red bean paste is one of the best parts of this parfait!
